FMP Mutual Fund Schemes Dominate- Fixed Maturity Plan schemes form a key chunk of recent Mutual Fund new fund offers (NFOs)
Fixed Maturity Plan FMP India MF NFOs (new fund offers) have dominated new offerings by mutual funds in India in recent months. The new Government regulations have probably played an important part in restoring confidence in Indian FMPs (fixed maturity plan schemes). Investors feel more secure that the investments of FMP MF schemes are in good quality bond paper of the right maturity
India MFs such as Kotak, Franklin Templeton and HDFC are launching new FMP (fixed maturity plan) NFOs
Across the board, FMP new fund offers(NFOs) are being launched by various India Mutual Funds such as Kotak, Franklink Temptleton and HDFC. The maturity of these FMP offerings vary from just over a year to more than 3 years.
Institutions in India in particular, are showing their marked preference of FMP fixed maturity plans over liquid mutual funds
FMP Fixed Maturity Plans are superior to liquid funds in returns and taxation,albeit with a technically slightly higher risk. As a result, institutions are preferring to invest in FMPS rather than liquid funds.
FMP Fixed Maturity Plans in India have only one disadvantage now- poor liquidity
Though FMP Fixed Maturity Plans in India are supposedly freely tradable in the market, the lack of trades in the bond market , make Fixed Maturity Plans quite an illiquid investment. This is the only real disadvantage of FMP Fixed Maturity Plans as an investment avenue in India, but this is definitely not a concern if the investment horizon of the FMP Fixed Maturity Plan is in keeping with the maturity of the FMP
